£500 for Wyre Forest Young Voices

December 15, 2018

WFYV is the Youth Choir of Kidderminster Choral Society, ( KCS ) “A Jewel in Wyre Forest’s Crown”, for so wrote Christopher Morley, the well known Music Critic, only this year.

Mary and John Yeates, 2nd Prov G Principal, were delighted to attend the Gala Christmas Concert at Kidderminster Town Hall on Saturday 15th December.

"We knew we would be presenting the agreed cheque to support WFYV but had no idea that the short ceremony to accomplish this would be in the Mayor’s Parlour and in the presence not only of the Mayor of Kidderminster, Cllr. Martin Stooke but also the Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Cllr. Stephen Williams, both wearing their chains.

"I was glad I had taken the Provincial Haggai’s chain to balance things and they were interested to see that the Jewel on our Chain had been presented by Ernest Grosvenor, of the Kidderminster Carpet Company of that name.

"I made the presentation to the Archdeacon of Worcester, Robert Jones, Chairman of WFYV, who received it with both grace and gratitude and enabled me to say a few words about Colin Brown’s vision in establishing the Fund. Allan Ashford, the Hon. Treasurer and Hayley Pinchbeck, mother of Wlil, one of the choir and who had alerted me to their great financial need, were also there and I was grateful for the very real support of John Gaston, one of the Principals of Worcestershire Installed First Principals' Royal Arch Chapter, who is also President of KCS.

"Geoffrey Weaver has been the much loved and highly respected Conductor of WFYV since 1997 and has travelled with them to perform in Europe. Perhaps this is why they sang a French Carol so beautifully.

"The whole concert was magnificently festive and it was a wonderful honour and privilege to be there on your behalf. In the Programme, I was proud to see an acknowledgment of their gratitude to the Worcestershire Royal Arch Province for the donation."
