Michael D Cox was born in Birmingham in 1947 and educated at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield. A self-employed, semi-retired Chartered Accountant, he has lived in Water Orton, with his wife Linda, for the past 48 years. They have three grown up children - two sons, Ben and Tim, and a daughter, Sally. They have five grandchildren.

Michael was initiated into the Lodge of Fellowship No. 6707 in 1976 and was Master in 1987. He is also a Past Master of Sure & Stedfast Lodge No. 9365, the Worcestershire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No. 9142, Custos Lodge No. 9320 and the Old Veseyan Lodge No. 7924 (Warwickshire) - and a member of Worcestershire Installed Masters' Lodge No. 6889. He was appointed Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1994 and to the Grand Rank of P.A.G.D.C. in 2000. 

In 2017 he was appointed as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master and in April 2018 received promotion in Grand Lodge to P.S.G.D. He retired from this appointment in June 2019.

Michael was exalted into St. Edburgha Chapter No. 4621 in 1986 and served as M.E.Z. in 1992. He was appointed to the Chapter Grand Rank of P.A.G.D.C. in 2006 and promoted to P.A.G.Soj. in April 2015 – having served as Third Provincial Grand Principal in 2010 and Second Provincial Grand Principal in 2014 – 2016. He was appointed as Provincial Deputy Grand Superintendent in 2019 and promoted to PGSwdB in 2020.

He is a past M.W.S. of St Kenelm Chapter Rose Croix No. 876 and of Worcestershire Chapter Rose Croix No. 970 – being a Member of the 31st Degree. He joined the Red Cross of Constantine in September 2018.

Michael's other interests include walking, caravanning, vegetable gardening and D.I.Y! He is also involved in his local Methodist Church, where he has been Treasurer for many years.
