On a cool December morning the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, E Comp Colin Brown, accompanied by his good lady Patti, travelled to the Birmingham Childrens’ Hospital to make two presentations from our Provincial Grand Chapter Charity Fund.

1) Firstly to the Diabetic Home Care Team, based at the Childrens’ Hospital, who also take their dedicated care out to the patients' own homes.

The donation to this specialised unit was sponsored by E Comp Keith Blizzard of Wigornia Chapter, whose daughter Claire –pictured on the left – was cared for by the Diabetic Team some 30 years ago!
The nursing staff was delighted to greet Claire who is living proof of the great work done by the Home Care Team and our thanks to Ryan, Hilary, Pete, Holly, Sara & Jo for taking time out to receive everyone.

2) The Oncology unit was the next port of call and in particular to the area that The Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) supports.

The realisation that young people requiring treatment were either in wards for babies and toddlers or even elderly adults became the driving force of the TCT to set up dedicated wards for those aged 13 to early 20’s. Specific areas that offer somewhere they can go to be with others of a similar age gives them a better frame of mind to tackle their time in Hospital.

The social room gives access to a pool table, jukebox, video games and a space to meet up and share time together. Teenage Cancer Trust funds these projects and provides dedicated nursing and support staff to give the young people every help they need to move on through their treatment.

Both of these deserving causes expressed their grateful thanks to all the Royal Arch Freemasons of Worcestershire whose generous alms giving at Chapter convocations has enabled the Provincial Grand Chapter Charity Fund to make the presentations.
