Why is the Royal Arch important?

March 23, 2005

Okay, so this is the serious bit. You probably already know that the Book of Constitutions is the ‘rule-book’ for Craft Freemasonry in this country. You might know it is also the rule-book for the Royal Arch, a distinction shared with no other Masonic Orders - this is the first clue that points out the special relationship between The Craft and Royal Arch.

If you have a copy, please turn to page 1, where the Preliminary Declaration states that:

“Pure Antient Masonry consists of three degrees and
no more, viz, those of the Entered Apprentice, the Fellow Craft, and the Master Mason, including the Supreme Order of the Holy Royal Arch”.

This is the second clue - pure ancient masonry can be regarded as the very core of Freemasonry and the rule-book specifies that it is made up of the Craft and the Holy Royal Arch together.

Hence, your journey through Pure Antient Masonry involves the first degree, second degree, third degree and the Holy Royal Arch.
